STATEMENT
I paint to process my thoughts and feelings; my mind rarely rests, and I found that free brushstrokes, rapid marks, and color contrasts offered a way to organize that internal noise. I almost always work with the human figure, animals, and nature—not merely as illustrative subjects, but as an excuse to let my hand move before my mind does. After my children were born, I went through postpartum depressions and periods of anxiety that led me to deliberately build a system of anchors: art, physical exercise, and—for the past three years—playing the drums. Of the three, drumming taught me something that now governs the way I paint: rhythm demands such sharp focus that there is no room for intrusive thoughts, only for the next beat. I seek that same discipline when I paint; the rapid, repetitive brushstrokes I use to render a figure function like drumbeats—gestures that accumulate to form a surface rather than being premeditated. Sports train that same ability to sustain attention without wavering, allowing me to spend hours before a canvas without losing the thread of a composition.
Water (the sea, lakes) and the flora and fauna appearing in my paintings are not merely decorative landscape elements; they serve the same anchoring function as drumming and exercise—a point of contact with God that stabilizes my inner self. That is why they reappear work after work, alongside themes like solitude and inner exploration—that constant search for signs to take the next step—with the human figure almost always serving as the central character.
When presenting my work, I aim to create that same pause for the viewer: a space where, if only for a moment, it is possible to feel calm while facing a reality distinct from the everyday.
BIOGRAPHY
Born in Guatemala. Started taking drawing and painting classes at the age of 15 at a local artist's studio where she began developing her skills at a local artist's studio. She graduated from "Universidad Rafael Landivar" as Graphic Designer and started working in various advertising agencies, and still continued her artistic studies in 2 different academies of figurative art. Her passion for human figure, specially portraits, were her motivation to take workshops in Los Angeles and New York.
She currently teaches drawing and design courses to 1st. and 2nd. year students of Architecture, and Graphic Design at "Universidad Rafael Landivar" and "Universidad Da Vinci" in Guatemala City.
